Happy Beltane

It’s the first of May today, hurray! It’s the sabbat of Beltane, and a massive cause for celebration in the Faery Kingdom. This festival is all about welcoming the happy arrival of summer, and the faeries honour the Green Man, the great spirit god of nature, with a stream of luxurious food, drink, song and dance.

In the final chapter of my new book, ‘The Faery Tale of Amy Thyst’ the story ends on the eve of Beltane and a great ball is held in the palace grounds which have been decked with feathers, bunting, banners and lanterns. The guests dress in leafy green masks and stag antler headpieces to depict the Green Man’s wild face, and Maypoles with long colourful trailing ribbons are erected for spinning round.

Beltane is a time traditionally known for weddings and fertility, so a joyous and romantic mood is in the air. I think it’s such a shame that we humans have forgotten through the ages to mark these important occasions on our yearly calendar. I know that I for one will be making sure I do something special this evening to show the faeries that I recognise the importance of this magical night. It’s as simple as lighting a candle, burning some incense, singing a song or preparing something really nice to eat or drink. Just don’t let Beltane pass without a little recognition. I promise you’ll be rewarded greatly by the faeries. They’ll be sure to sprinkle an extra bit of pixie dust magic on you as a thank you. Peace, love and sunshine sparkles, and happy Beltane 🙂 xoxo
