Finishing Touches

The end of January already, can you believe it? If it seems like I have been quiet for a little while since the New Year, then I assure you it has all been for a very good cause. I’ve been exceptionally hard at work, locked away in my home library at every available opportunity, putting the finishing touches to Book 2 in ‘The Faery Tales’ series, ‘The Faery Tale of Amy Thyst.’ Although I love writing with all my heart and soul, and there is truly nothing I would rather be doing, the process of finishing a novel does become a little stressful towards the end, as you want to make sure that you get everything perfectly right for your readers. You start to obsess over the littlest of things and panic that two words might be better the other way around or maybe the colour of a towel in somebody ‘s bathroom ought to be a different shade than you’d previously chose. It might sound silly, but being a perfectionist like this is all part of the beautiful game. Another inevitability is that my talented editor will soon pick my manuscript up at the other end and start to make another million changes. Even with the many red lines through my work, I do so heart this part of the publishing journey though. This is when your book starts to become part of a team effort and not just a solitary venture. This is when your characters have life breathed into their veins and become real to other people, not just to you. And of course nothing beats the very final stage of the process – my fabuloso readers finally holding a copy in their hands and enjoying the story. I can’t wait for you all to see what adventures are in store for the Steeple faeries this time. My most enjoyable part of this tale has to have been getting to know the brand new human character, Benjie Rivers. He’s another dreamy but totally disruptive boy type. I wonder why I like these trouble causers so much? Maybe it’s because I’m surrounded by so many of them in real life! Anyway, I better get back to work.
