It’s official! The Christmas Season is upon us, and I just cannot contain my excitement! You might have easily been able to guess that December is my most favourite month of the year x 100, what with all the shiny glitter and sparkles adorning every available surface. But there are other smiley reasons why I giddily count down the days to the Christmas period. I have my birthday on the 17th of this month and lots of other members of my family have December birthdays to celebrate too, including my Dad and my Nannan, so the parties start early on. When I was a little girl, it was always tradition that we put the Christmas tree up in the house on my Dad’s birthday, the 10th, and that was the key marker that Christmas was finally here. Nowadays though, since I moved into my own grown-up home where I make the rules, Christmas time has started to come earlier and earlier 🙂 It seems such a lot of work fully decorating your abode if you’re only going to have it up for a few days, so as soon as we hit the 1st and open that number 1 door on the advent calendar – a Disney Princess one, obvs! – the loft latch is lifted and down come the dusty boxes. My daughter and I spent all day Sunday in a happy daze, fixing up our two stunningly beautiful trees. Of course you can’t tackle a job such as this without all the appropriate accompaniments: Christmas carols on the stereo – sung by Michael Buble, because his dreamy voice is like melted butter on toast – a glass of sherry, an icing frosted mince pie and a pine needle scented Yankee candle burning bright. The ornaments I hang from the branches are naturally faery themed, and now all my beautiful winged snow queens are sitting among the silver twinkling lights and the house is like a faery wonderland.
I must make sure I stop by Steeple Village at some point over the next few weeks when the European Christmas Market is held in the Medieval Square. Steeple is especially magical at this time of year. Have a look at your copy of ‘The Faery Tale of Rosie Quartz’ and turn to Chapter 7, ‘The Last Snowflake’ for a reminder of how the villagers prepare.
Faeries heart Christmas just as much as we do, and it’s an equally huge cause for celebration in the Faery Realm as it is here. They are perhaps not quite so materialistic about food and gifts as we are. Though they love to give presents, for them it is more about the theme of spreading joy and cheer, and worshipping the winter solstice of Yule.
For me personally it’s important to have an appreciation of both sides of the coin. As a spiritual person, I like to inwardly reflect on Christian values and the gorgeous Nativity story, but I also think life is for living and we should thoroughly enjoy the luxuries of being a modern day consumer in this twenty-first century. The shops are full of fabuloso things just calling for our cash. Ka-ching! Ka-ching! My little girl has posted her letter to Santa Claus and she wants every single toy that the adverts show on TV. My list is also complete, but reads more along the lines of Tiffany’s jewellery, Chanel perfume, Louis Vuitton handbags and Louboutin shoes. J’adore.
I hope you’re all looking forward to a perfect Christmas time. Feel free to get in touch and let me know what’s at the top of your Christmas list. And girls, who would you most like to kiss under the mistletoe? 😉 😉 😉
