I have had such a fabuloso few weeks doing what I love to do best. What is that, I hear you ask? Well, other than write faery stories, it’s to perform on stage in front of an audience, of course! 😉
I was a little emotional on Sunday at the end of it all, as it was my final time playing the role of Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ If any of you out there are actors or actresses and have been involved in shows, you will know that over an intense rehearsal period, you and your fellow cast members become really close, like one big family unit. You spend a lot of time together and have to work as a tight team in order for the production to be a success. When that comes to an end, you naturally feel a little sad at saying goodbye to all your lovely new friends. So that’s what I’m going through right now. And most of all for my beautiful co-star, Sindee the Poodle, who played Toto and was in my arms throughout the whole play. She behaved like an angel – there’s no way my own two dogs, Lunar Belle and Fudge Cake, would have been so good – but Sindee is a professionally trained pooch actress with a canine equity card, so she deffo knows her stuff!
I’ve always wanted to play Dorothy, as she’s such an iconic female character. I’m a massive fan of old movies and the stunning starlets of the silver screen from those enchanting bygone eras. Judy Garland epitomises all that Hollywood glamour for me, and I hope I did her justice, stepping into her shiny ruby slippers. ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is one of those magical stories and movies which will always stand the test of time. My three-year-old daughter watches the DVD on constant repeat and knows all the songs word for word, just like I used to do. There were so many other little girls in our audiences who came dressed in the famous Dorothy costume and said how much they loved the story too. Read the original book by L. Frank Baum, if you haven’t already! The spin-off tales by Gregory Maguire are also fantastic and one of my top recommended reads. These were the books that the awesome Broadway musical ‘Wicked’ was based on. Faraway lands, faeries with wands, wicked witches and magical spells – it’s quite plain to see why all that is just my cup of tea. And the cute little gingham dress and glittery shoes that I got to wear as Dorothy are a definite bonus too. The show may be over, but I can’t promise that I won’t be seen around my house, still prancing around in them singing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow.’
Are you going to see a pantomime at the theatre this Christmas? Make sure you do. It’s a wonderful seasonal tradition to mark the end of the year with lots of fun and laughter. Ten days to go till Santa’s here! Eeeeek!!!
Peace, love and snowflake sparkles xoxo
